Scuttlebutt April 11, 2021
Tuesday Mike Elkin will present on Internal Family Systems which is the work he does nationally and internationally.  He also will provide a demonstration so we can better understand the process.

From Linda D:  Recently, I have attended/audited two District 7930-sponsored webinars on DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). This week's webinar contained valuable information for club boards and members to explore and consider. DEI is a complex and sometimes sensitive subject, not easily summarized in a few sentences, but one that is essential for the growth of Rotary clubs if Rotary is to carry out its mission of fellowship and service to all, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality, physical ability, religious or political affiliation.

A few takeaways from this week's session: African saying - "If you want to go fast, run alone. If you want to go farther, run with someone else." Questions that we may want to ponder - On a scale of 1-10, 10 being most important, "How important is diversity, equity, and inclusion to you?" "How important is diversity, equity, and inclusion to our club?" "What could you do to improve your rating by 1-2 points?"

In the upcoming months, there will be opportunities to further delve into DEI, but I would encourage all Harbor Rotary members to access the District 7930 website (www.district7930.org), click on 'Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion' and scroll down on the left to "District 7930 DEI Citation." The Citation is a checklist of points to ponder and solutions that may or may not all fit our particular club but can be used to guide the discussion.

Respectfully submitted, Linda Doliber (she, her, hers), Membership Ch.

At the NEPETS (northeast president elect training sessions) we were asked to expand our concept of diversity to include economic, age, and occupation/profession.  For communities who do not have a large population of racial diversity we need to look toward others who can widen our perspectives. Many folks want to help others and provide service.  We need to explore who in our community might want to join an organization such as ours whose reason for being is to help, and to welcome them.

SSU Food Pantry: This week, we learned that there are stoves and ovens available in several of the residence halls. Therefore, the "non-perishable microwaveable meals only" suggestion no longer applies. Also, a reminder that SSU has a diverse student population. So, culturally diverse non-perishable donations are more than welcomed. Thanks to all who have been dedicated in making contributions! They have been thoroughly appreciated! Keep up the good work: As we all know, hunger is not a finite thing.
