UNMATCHED GENEROSITY

A check on the amount of $600 was delivered last week (Jan 29th) to the Aniello family who lost their home and all its furnishings in a fire on the week before Christmas. Club President Michael Cognata said in a message that at last week’s meeting “along with our Club's matching funds, over $600.00 was raised from our members by our Fines and Happy Dollars master and Sergeant at Arms, Mr. Lenny Cameron. Thank you, Lenny for your inimitable skill at opening our hearts and our wallets!”
Michael thanked “everyone for their generosity and a special thank you to Jessica [Barnett] for bringing this tragedy to our attention and making this quick fund raiser happen.”
SAD NEWS

We are deeply saddened by the news of Tim Havens’ father passing, last week. A celebration of life for Rens Havens was held Saturday, at St. Michael's Church. Our deepest condolences to Tim and his family, as we keep them in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
THE PLUNGE IS THIS SATURDAY

Rob Deiana at the 2018 Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge is happening this Saturday. Rob Deiana is ready fearlessly dive, wade, and swim at Gloucester’s Long Beach on February 9th, but I’m sure he would like some company. However, if you don’t want to jump in maybe you’ll join his cheering section?
In a message to the Club Rob says he’s “always had a soft spot for the ocean even in February. Please support my plunge as Rotary continues its push to stomp out Polio. We are almost there and every dollar helps!”
John Williams asks SB to remind you that “Brett, our stalwart treasurer, has come up with a way for you to give to the 2019 Polar Plunge and pay by credit card through the club.
If you send an email to Brett at info.rcomh@gmail.com requesting that you’d like to do this, he will send you a bill from QuickBooks so you can give to the 2019 Polar Plunge using your credit card! Also, if you contribute through the club, donations will be credited to RCOMH.
BIG TOE PLUNGE
NOW SCHEDULED FOR LATE MARCH

The Big Toe Plunge is now a mixer with InterAct... except… well… they’ll do the full body plunge. However, intrepid RCOMH membrrrrrs will show’em a toe or two when we dip it at Devereux Beach. Let’s think about creative ways and outfits to “plunge” our big toe in the water and help eradicate polio.

* 10:00am

BRENDAN CRONIN

La Chanterelle
(Photo: Endicott College)

At tomorrow’s Club meeting the guest speakers are us. It’s Club Assembly day, so get on that soapbox. Our previous orator was Brendan Cronin a leader of the Hospitality major at Endicott College, where he has taught for 25 years. He was a lively and captivating guest and explained that the dinners his students host at La Chanterelle are, indeed, a class where they learn and practice their future trade. La Chanterelle was opened because he wanted students to learn, while serving 60 customers in a real restaurant rather than practice in the school’s cafeteria. “It’s important. Students need to be encouraged”, he said.
FINE DINING AT LA CHANTERELLE

We have more candidates than the 16 available reservations for dinner at La Chanterelle at Endicott College on March 28, and April 11 (both Thursdays). Please see John Williams or Linda Bassett if you’d still like to register before the upcoming drawing to choose the final 16. The cost is $34, excluding your wine choice. Need more info? Click here to e-mail Linda.
BEVERAGE ONLY?

Club Secretary John Williams awaits your entries – COB today, please – for the “Beverage Only” draw at tomorrow’s meeting, February 5th. Those chosen will start their cycle (no full breakfast, beverage only) on April 1st.
EASY MAKE UPS

Thank you John Williams for sharing the link for “doing an online makeup if you miss a meeting or want to earn yourself an attendance credit. Click on the link below, then after it opens scroll over the “Makeups” tab and click on “How To Do A Makeup”…
MONEY MATTERS

The RCOMH Board formed a committee, headed by Rob Deiana, to help the club recruit a new Treasurer. Brett Lazar will “retire” soon and finding a suitable replacement is a priority. We’re hoping it will be easier to find someone after the substantial changes Brett introduced. And while we’re talking about money… Michael Cognata asked the club for thoughts on helping the MHD High School music department finance a trip to Canada – four students cannot afford the $1,400 price tag.

WHO’S WITH ROB?

Rob Deiana at the 2018 Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge is now less than two weeks away. Our cold weather hero Rob Deiana is ready to dive, wade, and swim at Gloucester’s Long Beach on February 9th, but I’m sure he would like some company. But if you don’t want to jump in maybe you’ll join his cheering section. In a message to the Club Rob says, “I have always had a soft spot for the ocean even in February. Please support my plunge as Rotary continues its push to stomp out Polio. We are almost there and every dollar helps!” You heard the man, so click here to sign up to plunge, donate, or be a cheerleader. Or, better even, give donations directly to Club Treasurer Brett Lazar, so they can be bundled and counted as a RCOMH donation. See Brett at the meeting or e-mail him at info.rcomh@gmail.com
BIG TOE PLUNGE
DATE CHANGE

A date change has been announced for the Big Toe Plunge. It’s now scheduled for March 23rd @10:00am and it’s a joint activity with InterAct... except… well… they’ll do the full body plunge. But we need our membrrrrrs to join in and dip their big toe at Devereux Beach. Start thinking about creative ways and outfits to “plunge” your big toe in the water and help eradicate polio.
COFFEE ONLY?

On February 5th the Club will hold its annual lottery for those members who wish to be “coffee only”, and forgo full breakfast. The new “coffee only” cycle begins on April 1st. If you wish to enter the lottery please speak with or e-mail John Williams.
BY THE WAY...

Sick Bay. Cyndi Kilbarger’s adventure on thin ice was just a tad too extreme and she “took a terrible spill”. We wish her a speedy recovery. Joan McCormack is feeling better and looks forward to re-joining the Club soon.
LOA. Kelly McAdams and Heidi Whear requested, and the Board approved, leave of absence. Please come back soon.
Survey. Melissa Stacey finished tabulating the results of the member survey. Michael Cognata will review and share those at the next Club Assembly. Our thanks to Melissa.
Attendance Reminder. Attendance at the meetings will no longer be taken by the Club Secretary. An attendance sheet will be available on the table, left hand side as you come into the hall. Please initial next to your name.

HEALING WINDS

Zhenique Israelian with Martin Trice and Suzanne Johnson of Healing Winds, and Club Preident Michael Cognata

Tomorrow’s speaker at the club meeting is Chef Brendan Cronin, head of the Hospitality major at Endicott College. He will speak to us about the new dining season at La Chanterelle, the beautiful restaurant where his students practice their future trade.
Last week, Healing Winds’ Suzanne Johnson, spoke about the free sailing adventures offered to cancer patients and survivors and their family and friends. Suzanne was accompanied by Martin Trice and Francie King, from the Salem Chapter of Healing Winds, who need not just donations but volunteers. To learn more and help, visit the Healing Winds website.
MARBLEHEAD’S GOT TALENT

Dave Deutsch and Arthur Schwartz with Club Pre

Last week, we also welcomed fellow Rotarians Dave Deutsch and Arthur Schwartz, from the Marblehead Rotary Club, who asked for our support for their Marblehead's Got Talent Performing Arts Scholarship. How can we help? By purchasing tickets for the MGT Grand Finale, with eight wonderful acts, to be held next Wednesday, Febryary 6th @6:00pm, at the Boston Yacht Club. Tickets prices: $50 online or $55 at the door.
TO LEAD OR NOT TO LEAD

Lynnfield Club President Ron Block with Linda Doliber

Linda Doliber spoke at the weekly meeting of the Lynnfield Rotary Club, about the April 27th Rotary Leadership Institute Seminar to be held at the Four Points Sheraton (Wakefield, MA). Linda is the site chair, and made a compelling presentation about the benefits of this interactive, fun way to develop your leadership skills and greatly increase your knowledge of all things Rotary. The District Governor and our Club Board will help members pay for seminar fees, in some cases with a full refund. Pre-register at RLINEA.org or e-mail Linda Doliber for more information.
