As we enter fall and our holiday season let us all think about the many reasons why we joined Rotary and the importance of our Rotary membership to ourselves, to the local community, and to our international activities.  To me Rotary has allowed me to meet all of you who I otherwise may not have had in my circle of friends.  That connection has become so important to who I am in Marblehead and in the world. I have been impressed by the commitment so many of you have shown to the service, fundraising, and fellowship events we have.

This week is our club assembly. Don will be leading the meeting.  Tricia will be on an island in the middle of Lake Champlain hopefully phoning in.  We have much to discuss so lets all first share happinesses then get down to work.

This holiday season the Board has decided to cancel the way we usually conduct POPS and the artist reception. We have suggested alternatives that will be discussed at our Tuesday meeting. Our primary idea is an art auction that may be exclusively art or other things as well.

In addition to our holiday fundraising activities we may need to consider other options that we might be able to schedule in the spring.  Keep your thinking caps on.
Our forced indoor and on-line activities may alter the way we provide service activities.  Karyn has made some suggestions that I would like you all to consider and add to the options.
  1. Beach cleaning (on our own or with other community organizations who do this on a regular basis),
  2. Bringing ice melt to seniors,
  3. Delivering ice cream to seniors (this is usually coordinated with the COA),
  4. Working with our MHD food pantry especially around Thanksgiving time and other holidays,
  5. Organizing a postal food drive (this is a national event but we can promote in our community),
  6. Working with the North Shore Friends of Refugees to assist folks coming from Afghanistan, and
  7. Continuing to help the Lynn Network and Salem State students who we have been supporting.
  8. Working with police regarding addiction projects that we as a club began a few years ago and we might want to reenergize.
