Scuttlebutt, September 7, 2020
I hope you all are enjoying this Labor Day weekend.  Nice weather for outdoor activities. Remember to walk the trails that Don Morgan told us about a few weeks ago.

We are pleased to have Juan Gallego a member of the Chelsea Rotary at our club meeting Tuesday morning. Juan is a veteran of multiple Global Grants in South America and Rotoplast cleft palate surgery missions to Cebu, the Philippines. Juan is currently spearheading a four-part water project in his native Columbia.  Juan will tell us about his experiences using the resources of the Rotary Foundation.

In follow-up to last week’s exploration of “Public Places and Public Art” with Jeremy Barnett, please do send your art ideas for your favorite Marblehead public space(s) to Jessica Barnett at jdharbar@comcast.net. Jeremy will then prepare a summary for the club members. All ideas are welcome - there are never any bad ideas because all ideas can lead to even more ideas.

Two of our committees need more of your support.  Membership is meeting on Thursdays.  This week at 2:00 and then resuming its usual time at 10 in the morning. The committee is modifying RIs membership suggestions to our club’s needs.  Membership is the responsibility of all of us.   The Service committee also needs an infusion of excitement.  Heidi is convening the first meeting on  September 15 immediately following the regular meeting.  (around 9) Please stay on our zoom link and in Heidi’s words “Gather your brilliant ideas and passions and come share!”  Service is our reason for being so let’s do what we are know for.

From the POPS committee:  You all will be receiving sponsor, donation, packets to distribute to merchants and other folks around town.  This year rather than the program booklet we are offering various levels of support which can include different amounts of airtime for their logo, a print of Steve Limon’s artwork, and a packet of the artwork notecards. We need full membership engagement with this effort.

Unhappy news.  Jody Martin, Lenny Cameron’s partner, has been diagnosed with lung cancer.  She has had surgery and is now in a course of chemotherapy to be followed by radiation.    She is being treated at MGH and feels that she is getting the best care possible. Cards may be sent to 121 Green St.  If you would like to provide food Jody prefers vegetarian food.

Another blow to our club. From Rosaleen Doherty: It is with a heavy heart I have decided that I will not return to Rotary. This was a hard decision to make after all my years, but I think it is time for me to move on to other worthwhile projects. I love Rotary because we can be part of our local community and do good work in the biggest and smallest ways. Now that my kids are both in college, I have the freedom to use my energies in different places and at different times. I am sure that our paths will cross again and wish my fellow the Rotarians good health and much happiness. RCOMH has the best people and I will miss you all.
