SCUTTLEBUTT
Tuesday Sep. 10
Greeter: Larry Procter
TODAY’S MEETING

As per club president Kathleen Murphy’s announcement, today’s meeting will be dedicated to brainstorming. Please bring your best ideas to share with other club members as we think of ways to increase our fundraising, membership and service activities.
PAY AWARDS  TICKETS THIS WEEK

Thursday, September 12th is the deadline to pay for the half-price tickets for next week Chamber Awards Dinner.
The Board of Directors approved the payment of 50% of the cost of attending the Chamber of Commerce awards dinner on September 19th. Club members will pay only $25.00; their guests will pay full price.
Ed Bell, Don Doliber and The Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor will be honored that night.
Ed was named Person of the Year, Don was distinguished with the Community Service award and our Club was chosen, along with the Marblehead Club, as the Non-Profit Organization of the Year.
It would be important to see RCOMH properly represented at the event, given that it and its members won three of the five awards to be presented.
Please make sure to give Kathleen or the club treasurers your $25 dollar payment – checks should be made payable to RCOMH. She will then get the tickets from the Chamber.
What: Marblehead Chamber of Commerce Awards Ceremony and Dinner
When: Thursday, September 19th, at 5:30pm
Where: Corinthian Yacht Club
Price: $25 (when purchased through the RCOMH)
NO MEETING NEXT WEEK

The Awards Dinner will replace next week’s meeting, and who attend will receive an attendance mark for the week.
RCoMH BOOTH AT THE FARMER’S MARKET

As part of our new membership drive, the RCoMH club will have a booth at the Marblehead Farmer’s Market, on Saturday, September 21st. We will need volunteers to work at the booth and engage with passersby.
FOOD PANTRY CONTRIBUTION FOR SEPTEMBER
Condiments and salad dressing

NO HOLIDAY POPS,
HELLO VALENTINE POPS
There will be no Holiday Pops this year due to a change in Abbot Hall’s renovation schedule. In spite of the promises made to the Club, construction will not end on time for the planned hosting of the Pops in December. The rain date is February 14th and we need ideas to make this event a successful fundraiser, given that it’s harder to bring people out during non-holiday events. Please send your ideas to Kathleen Murphy as we try to make sure our biggest fundraising event of the year remains our biggest fundraising event of the year.

FRIENDS FOREVER DINNER IS ON OCT 22nd

Catholic and Protestant Northern Irish youngsters are arriving in our area soon for the annual Friends Forever fellowship visit. Cyndi Kilbarger will soon have details on the dinner traditionally hosted by our club at the Gerry 5. Stay tuned… but in the meantime mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 22nd.
OPIOID FIGHT

Michael Elkin is pushing forward with the idea of a (not just opioids) Addiction Committee. Please get in touch with Mike if you would like to help and participate.
A RICHER 50-50 RAFFLE

The 50-50 raffle will potentially give out more money. Starting this week, drawing the Joker will mean paying a $5.00 donation.
ONE MORE PUSH FOR NEPAL

Patricia Sullivan will soon travel to Nepal again. She hopes we make her spend a small fortune in baggage fees with our donations of toothpaste and tooth brushes, soap bars, used children’s books (no photos or images of American homes, please) and wrist and ankle braces. E-mail Patricia Sullivan for more details.
ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE’S SEMINAR

RLI is organizing a leadership seminar on October 5th.
The seminar is divided in four parts that cover topics like re-energizing clubs, fundraising, ethics, public relations, and a host of other topics that will benefit participants who, by virtue of their Rotarian membership, are already leaders in their professions and communities.
The complete curriculum listing is available at www.rlinea.org.
Each part is a one-day session and the sessions must be taken in order. Early registration is preferable.
Cutoff day for registering is September 23rd.
When: Saturday October 5th, 2019, 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Where: Sheraton Four Points, Wakefield (right off of MA Rt. 128)

Register: Online at www.rlinea.org
GREETINGS FROM GRETA

In her green minute last week Judith Black told us about Swedish teenage activist Greta Thunberg who sailed to New York to participate in the United Nations Climate Action Summit on September 23rd. In the meantime, Judy has this video of Greta’s speech during last year’s summit.

WINDRUSH FARM GALA

The Windrush Farm is hosting its annual fundraising Gala on Saturday, October 19th from 6:30pm to 10:30pm, at the Black Swan Country Club, 258 Andover St, Georgetown, MA. The event benefits children and adults with physical, cognitive, emotional and social challenges.
Enjoy cocktails, silent auction, dinner, live auction, Pony Up and dancing with your friends to a DJ. The silent auction has many unique items for riders, adventurers, travelers and foodies. Click here for more details.

Thank you Kathleen Murphy for your contribution to this edition of Scuttlebutt.
