Scuttlebutt  January 15th, 2022
This Tuesday morning we will have a club assembly to discuss: 1. Ways in which we can provide service to our community, and 2. Consider a spring fundraiser that does not focus on donations from our town businesses.  Please think of options, explore what other clubs and organizations have done for fundraisers, think creatively.  At this point no idea is a bad one or not an option, all will be considered.  We will then determine feasibility as we narrow options. I am leaving early Sunday morning to drive to FL for 2 weeks.  Hopefully I will be able to lead the meetings lying under a palm tree.

Please fill out and return the survey we have sent so we can input from all our members. The responses will help us plan the future.

There will be a BOD meeting this Thursday.  Please let Tricia or any of the board members know if there are topics you would like for us to discuss.

Did you turn on your faucet to wash your hands or shower this morning? (In the Minawao Refugee Camp, Cameroon, there is almost no access to soap to help prevent disease or the spread of COVID)  How many times a day do you hit a switch to turn on the lights in your home or office? (After Tropical Cyclone Harold hit in Vanuatu, there was no electricity.)   Trips to the sink for a drink of water or to brush your teeth? (In countries that have experienced severe flooding or industrial pollution, access to any clean water is rare.)   Time to bundle up. Sure is cold outside in Marblehead, right? (Refugee families in Syria are suffering from the cold winter there and are in desperate need of blankets.)

A $20 contribution to Shelter Box will provide soaps and buckets for washing; $30 an inflatable solar light; $50 an easy-to-use water filter; $75 blankets for cold children and parents. $1,000 would provide a family tent, stove, lighting, blankets, a tarp, and a number of rebuilding tools.

Shelter Box and Rotary are official project partners in disaster relief, and Shelter Box, like Rotary International, holds the coveted 4-Star designation for financial transparency and operational efficiency. If you would like to donate: Shelter Box, P.O. Box 5055, Santa Barbara, CA 93150 or ShelterBoxUSA.org.
Please let the board members know if you would like the club to donate to this organization.  We may be able to pool donations with the club's contribution.

I am writing to you about our Net Zero Planning process.  I would like for you to share this information and survey with the members of the Marblehead Harbor Rotary, in case people are interested, have input, and were unaware of the process.

The Green Marblehead Committee and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council are developing a Net Zero Roadmap to chart the course to meet the Town's goal of reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 and we want to hear from you!

If you missed the Net Zero Workshop on October 6, 2021 (or you attended and you just have more to share with us), please let us know what your climate action priorities are and what you think should be included in the roadmap by completing this survey by January 31: https://mapc.ma/marblehead.

If you weren’t able to join the Net Zero Workshop, you can view the workshop here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5I5gYre414. Or you can view the presentation slides here.

Thank you in advance for your engagement in this important planning process.
