DISTRICT CONFERENCE NOTES SHARED BY LINDA DOLIBER

1. To continue Rotary’s mission of “doing good in the world” at the same or greater level,

Rotary has some challenges ahead, not dissimilar to those facing many other organizations:

Case in point is that our worldwide membership has declined from 2 million to 1.5 million.

Also, overall, donations to the Rotary Foundation three years ago were down enough so that monies

from our district’s Annual Share that were invested and the 50% of those funds that are coming back

to our District this year from the 3-year investment will result in a $2k each max District reimbursement

for global and district managed grants (a decline from $3k reimbursement last year).

Are we going to sit back and accept the status quo?

Of course not! Now is the time to increase, and share, our enthusiasm for

fellowship, service, and fun!

Let’s get creative and regain our reputation as one of the best “worker-bee” clubs in District 7930!

2. Watch upcoming district E-Bulletins: District Assembly, June 3.

An important part of the program will be the opportunity to take the grants training course

provided to ensure club certification to apply for global or district grants.

Part of the certification is that the club president and one other member must sign a

Memorandum of Understanding, a legal document that ensures accountability and transparency

in the writing of Rotary grants. (Online training will also be offered.)

Thursday, May 14th Fundraising Event at The Tides

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, I volunteer with a hearing outreach program in Tanzania.

The North Shore Hearing Foundation is holding a fundraiser for this program on

May 14 at the Tides in Nahant to help purchase hearing test equipment for children.

Enjoy a delicious meal while giving back, as the Tides will donate 10% of all sales

(including takeout) to this important cause, with raffles throughout the evening.

Access to hearing healthcare in Tanzania is critically limited, with fewer than

one audiologist per million people in a country of 65 million. Without early screening,

children are often not identified until age six, missing the critical window for speech

and language development and facing lifelong barriers.

With your support, we can expand access, train local providers, and give children

the chance to learn, communicate, and thrive.

Here is the story of a child we helped:

Purity couldn’t hear her mother or connect with friends until age 7, when she was

diagnosed with severe hearing loss. The moment her hearing aids were turned on,

her face lit up with joy. Today, this shy little girl is learning to communicate with

the support of her parents and speech therapy.

understand the importance of early hearing screening and timely intervention"

friend told him that there would not be independence or a nation without

Marblehead and Glover's Regiment who saved the movement three times.

Friends of Marblehead Parks Announces Perennial Native Plant Sale

First-Ever Fundraiser Features Native Perennials, Shrubs, and Pollinator Plants to Support Local Parks

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Friends of Marblehead Parks invites the community to its first-ever plant sale

fundraiser on Friday, June 20, from 9:00-!2:00 at the Marblehead Community Center,

10 Humphrey Street, Marblehead, MA. The sale will feature a curated selection of native perennials,

shrubs, and pollinator plants — all chosen to thrive in New England gardens while benefiting

local ecosystems.

Adding native plants to your garden is a meaningful step toward a healthier environment.

Native species support biodiversity, promote natural plant health, and eliminate the need

for extensive watering, chemical treatments, and manufactured nutrients — making them

an ideal choice for both novice and experienced gardeners.

This plant sale marks the first fundraiser for the Friends of Marblehead Parks,

a community organization whose mission is to improve the visual appeal, biodiversity,

and sustainability of Marblehead’s parks through community projects, education, and engagement.
