A little background -- during Michael Cognata's Club Presidency, our club hosted the Rotary Club of Marblead for a joint dinner party at The Lodge. It was a wonderful event!
This year, The Marblehead Club will be hosting us to
a cash bar and Hors D'Oeuvres catered by Louise Moore right here at The Lodge. The party is being planned by Marblehead President Nancy Gwin and Diane Barbour of Holiday Pops fame.
We'll have more details soon
so be sure to mark your calendar now!

Thank you for donating to the Salem State University
"Career Closet" Initiative!

What a great and generous club! So many lovely dresses, blazers, women's suits, men's suits, shirts and ties! Absolutely wonderful. And, every time Jessica brings a donation to the collection site...well, the reality is that almost all of the donations coming in to the location at the Business School have been donated by the members of this club and our families and friends. It's amazing.
Thank you for this generous and caring response.
Donations will be gratefully accepted through
Tuesday, March 7th.
Thank you! Thank you!

A Message on Scam Emails
from Alexander Falk, Governor, Rotary District 7930
...There is a scammer currently sending fraudulent emails to Rotary Club Presidents, Committee Members, Assistant Governors, and possibly also other Rotarians in our district claiming to come from our DGN, DRFC, or other senior District Officers

Our district has been targeted by similar scams before, so this is unfortunately nothing new. Nonetheless, we have decided to send out an email to all Rotarians...to warn you about this scammer and remind you to always be careful with any emails that you receive and be especially suspicious of any unusual requests.

Here are a few additional helpful tips:
  1. When reading emails, please be always mindful of the sender's email address. These fraudulent emails this past week came from various bogus email addresses

  2. Be very suspicious of any emails that ask you to buy gift cards and then send photos to the sender. These are always fraudulent emails, and once the gift card has been used - which usually happens within minutes of sending the photo - the money is gone and the transaction cannot be reversed.

  3. Be very suspicious of any emails that ask for wire transfers, credit card information, login information, account credentials, etc. - in all these cases it is best to independently verify the request via a separate channel, such as calling the other party.

  4. Be very careful with any emails that try to explain weird circumstances as the reason for the unusual request. In this particular case, the bogus explanation given in the scam email stated "I'm supposed to get this done but I can't! I would have given you a call but my phone slipped and fell. That's why I'm emailing you, till I get it checked out I can only be reached via email."

  5. Be very careful with any emails that contain strange spelling or obvious grammatical errors. Often scams or phishing attempts originate in other countries and thus the sender is not always proficient in the English language.

  6. Check out the following two articles from the Consumer Advice department at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that contain more helpful information on gift card scams and phishing emails:
I hope that - if you did receive one of those scam emails - you instinctively hit the delete button and did not actually buy any gift cards! And I am very sorry that our district has once again been targeted by a scammer, and about any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Best Regards,
Alexander Falk
District Governor 2022-23
