SCHOLARSHIP TO BE AWARDED TOMORROW

The Enhanced Scholarship Trustees recently interviewed three finalists for the Second Chance Scholarship and a winner was selected. She will be awarded the certificate tomorrow, during our weekly meeting.

ICE CREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM… FOR ICE CREAM

Don’t put away those coolers just yet. Ice cream sundae for Meals on Wheels recipients in Marblehead will be delivered to seniors on Wednesday, September 5th at 1:00pm. Coffey’s Ice Cream is supplying the sundaes, but we need to deliver them to bring a little joy to homebound people here in town. Please sign up at our weekly Club meeting, as we need more teams. Have a small cooler ready. Questions? Please ask Rosaleen.

DRINK, EAT… BE LATE TO BED

If you worked hard delivering ice cream treats (or even if you didn’t) you have the perfect excuse to treat yourself and come to the after-hours Club Social, the very next day, Thursday, September 6th . Michael Cognata will soon have all the spirited details, i.e. place and time.

CRUISING

John Williams report on last Thursday’s Club Cruise: “It was a perfect evening, a calm sea, a warm breeze and good company.” John was kind enough to share some photos of the event.

MAKING AGING GREAT AGAIN

Rosaleen Doherty and Michael Cognata

In her classification talk, Club member Rosaleen Doherty spoke to Marblehead Harbor Rotarians about her experiences with her business, Right at Home, and her decision to follow a career path that helps seniors stay in their own home by providing them with care and services. She was welcomed by RCoMH President Mike Cognata. Thanks for the report, Pam.

THE DOCTOR IS IN…

Carmela Mancini

Tomorrow we will hear from Dr. Carmela Mancini, about her practice of “old-fashioned” healthcare, through an innovative model called Direct Primary Care (DPC). We’re not endorsing it, but – hey – you can never know too much… unless the mob is chasing after you :)

A GENTLE REMINDER
Linda Doliber suggests we help Zhenique find speakers for our weekly meetings. Zhenique is doing great, but if we could each send her names and contacts of interesting people we know, we would greatly help her. The only guidelines are that the speaker be non-political and the subject non-religious.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

Marblehead-Salem-Swampscott Champions

Trista reports that the Marblehead-Salem-Swampscott team won the Rotary District Softball Championship for the first time in 10 years.
It was a great moment for a team that had lost four title games to Chelsea, but came out on top Wednesday, August 22nd, in Salem, to bring home the trophy.
Our very own Jim Rice has played on the team for many years, so please congratulate Dr. Jim. The team has been managed by Andrew Christensen of the Marblehead Rotary Club for the last two years. It was his mission to win the Championship this year and he succeeded!

SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED

We need a crew of up to 15 Rotarians, on Saturday, September 15th, from 10:00am to 1:30pm, to build five beds for kids, in Lynn. Signup sheets will be circulated at tomorrow’s Club meeting. Questions? Rosaleen has answers.

MARBLEHEAD SPIRIT DAY

 Old Town House

Saturday, September 15th from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Walk the town and hear about its history and spirit at five locations: Abbot Hall and the Maritime Museum -- Marblehead Museum and the Jeremiah Lee Mansion -- The Old Town House and the G.A.R./Civil War Museum -- Tucker’s Wharf: Marblehead fishing boats -- Fort Sewall and crew from the USS Constitution. Lectures will be held every hour on the hour except at noon time. Don Doliber may need volunteers to help sign people up, and he will let us know and pass signup sheets around.

“3+ CLUB PICNIC SOCIAL” = FOOD, FELLOWSHIP, FUN

Cedarwood Farm
Sunday, September 23 at 1:00 pm.
Cedarwood Farm
94 Essex Road (Rte. 133), Ipswich MA
The Cedarwood Farm will welcome area Rotarians to an afternoon of fellowship and good fun at a picnic turned Club Social, with Marblehead Harbor, Marblehead and Ipswich. Michael Cognata will have more details soon.

A MESSAGE FROM JESSICA

Our Rotary Club is, indeed, a special family. And in that spirit, the club’s Care Committee welcomes opportunities to celebrate our members' special events, milestones and achievements. We send out birthday greetings and congratulatory cards on a regular basis. But also, as a family, we seek to be supportive when a member or a member’s family is going through challenges — perhaps an illness or the loss of a loved one. If you know about an event or experience that the Care Committee should be aware of, please do let us know. In cases of challenges, we will seek your guidance and will be respectful of wishes for confidentiality and privacy. You might even like to serve on this committee. We welcome your help in “caring” for our fellow members. In all cases, please contact Jessica Barnett at jdharbar@comcast.net

NOV. 8th – SAVE THE DATE,
HONOR OUR COMMUNITY’S UNSUNG HEROES

"I NEED YOU"

“There is no passion to be found in playing small – settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
- Nelson Mandela
Leaders think big, and act bigger.
But how do you get from thinking to acting?
The Rotary Leadership Institute may help.
A new schedule of interesting and worthwhile leadership training opportunities is available.
These workshops are useful for all: those who are leaders seeking to improve their skills, and those who aspire to be leaders and seek to nurture their skills.
It is also an excellent opportunity for new members to learn more about Rotary.
And Marblehead Harbor has a special reason to foster attendance: our own Linda Doliber will be the site chair for the April 2019 meeting in Wakefield. We will surely want to be there in numbers certain to indicate MH means business. Leadership business. Even on Saturdays :)
