HONORING OUR VETERANS

Getty Photos

November 11th, 1918 brought an end to World War I through an armistice that would lead, six months later, to a peace treaty signed in Versailles. In 1919 the United States, and its European allies started to celebrate the date as Armistice Day. Congress would later declare the date an annual holiday and in 1954 decided to call it Veterans Day, to honor all who served honorably in the armed forces. And to all who did, we express our gratitude.

MORE POPS SPONSORSHIPS NEEDED

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. We need more sponsors for Pops On The Move! The deadline for sponsorships was extended to Friday, November 15th so that club members will have more time to look for sponsors for our holiday event to be held on December 13th and 14th. Here’s a message from Diane Barbour:
“Sponsorships, old and new, are the backbone of this event.  If you have checks from sponsors please give them to me on Tuesday; if you haven't gone after any sponsors PLEASE do so quickly. The event is all set to go - will be fun and lively - but without sponsors we will not make any money.  No money - no donations!!! Everyone needs to step up to the plate and help make this a great success. Many thanks, Diane Barbour.”
If you have questions see Diane at the club meeting or click here to e-mail her.

FESTIVE ARTIST RECEPTION

Club President Kathleen Murphy
with artist Roy Brindamour and his creation

Roy Brindamour was welcomed by dozens of Rotarians and other community members at the Abbot Library last week as he unveiled and donated to the club his latest Father Christmas creation.
The Holiday Pops On the Move! Father Christmas will be raffled at the holiday party at the Hooper Mansion on December 14th.
Raffle tickets are available at the Arnould Gallery and from Diane.
Brindamour is an accomplished artist and has made winter Holiday and Father Christmas figures for many years. Each is made entirely by the artist, as he molds the faces and hands, constructs the figure and accessories, and sews each costume.

Marblehead volunteer Dick Auffrey and other community heroes were honored at the Paul Harris Foundation dinner last week. Auffrey was recognized for his work on behalf of vulnerable Marblehead senior  citizens.
The event was upbeat and festive, as gathered Rotarians and their guests heard from Massachusetts First Lady Lauren Baker and retired U.S. Marine Cpl. Micaila Britto.
Baker spoke about her work with vulnerable children and received a $5,000 District donation for the nonprofit she works with – Wonderfund.
Britto thanked District 7930 clubs and individuals who underwrote the cost of training her service dog, Rabbit, a gentle Great Dane that will help her live with severe injuries suffered in the line of duty.

“INTERACTCAFE” COMING TO THE NORTH SHORE THIS WEEK

The next InteractCafe is scheduled for this Thursday, November 14th at the at the Ipswich High School.
This is a follow up from the Winchester InteractCafe where Rotarians and students alike left better informed, energized and most importantly, excited to get back to their clubs and put all that enthusiasm and energy to work.

LAST CHANCE TO PLAN
FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE

Three Voices took up the discussion of how seniors and their families face many decisions as life moves on. Should I continue to live where I live now? What are my options? What conversations do I need to have and with whom? Experienced professionals delved into that decision process over the last few weeks. And the last session is scheduled for this Sunday, November 17th at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Hall, 62 Pleasant St.
