Scuttlebutt
February 6th, 2022
Hello all,  cold and snowy,  I guess typical winter weather, what did the groundhog say???  I usually write Scuttlebutt during a football game.  I have to say that curling is just not matching up.   Talk about snowiness, we are pleased with our service project of distributing ice melt and sand to community members.

This Tuesday is a Club Assembly, and we have lots to discuss.
On March 1st our anticipated in-person/hybrid meeting will happen as long as the town numbers allow.  It will be so nice to be together again.  To be in person you will need to be fully vaxed and masked.  If you do not meet this requirement or feel more comfortable you can remain on zoom.  I will ask Louise to have coffee/tea and pastries for us.  We all will pay at the door. The amount will be shared next week.

Our Yard Sale fundraising project.  Tentative dates May 14-15th.  As much as each member can and with whatever you can, we would like full participation.  We need lots of wonderful items to sell as well as many ways we all can participate.  Jess will give an update on Tuesday.

If there are updates, we can hear from Pam about helping clean-up Burial Hill and from Mike about how we can improve our cooking.

Our club submitted a District Grant to help the police set up a small exercise area at the station.  Will let you know when we hear more.

Rotary International has asked clubs about their involvement in assisting the resettlement process of the 100,000 Afghan refugees in communities around the US. Locally the North Shore Friends of Refugees Is assisting families in many ways: acculturation, transportation to appointments, housing, furnishings, clothing, education including English, employment.  Question: do we as a club, and as individuals want to assist in this process and if so to what extent?  We have talked about getting involved with other local organizations.  This may be an opportunity to do so.

We all contribute in so many ways: with our time, talent, and treasure.  Showing up and being there for our community and for each other is our primary commitment.

On a sad note Deb Wysor’s husband Philip and Jim Rice’s mother recently died. Our club sent condolences.  If you wish to their addresses are:
Deborah Wysor 42 Longview Dr.     Jim Rice 6 Edgewood Rd.
